About

The Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science (Psychology) double degree is a multidisciplinary qualification designed to enable you to gain entry into the legal and psychology professions. During your legal studies you will learn about legal procedures and key legislation, develop skills necessary to identify, analyse and evaluate facts in relation to legal frameworks.

The core areas of the law degree match those required for admission to the legal profession including statutory interpretation, criminal law and procedure, contracts, torts, constitutional law, equity, administrative law, property, company law, evidence, professional responsibility and civil procedure. Your Psychology studies will give you a comprehensive overview of the scientific discipline of psychology and its applications.

The course is delivered in accordance with the foundational (level one) competencies for three-year undergraduate psychology programs as specified by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). You will acquire an understanding of the underlying principles, theories and concepts within the discipline. You will have the opportunity to explore applied and professional uses of psychology and will be introduced to psychological theory, research, and applied and professional uses of psychology in an ethical and culturally responsive context.

Professional recognition

Legal Practitioners Admissions Board of Queensland – this course is an approved academic qualification for admission to the legal profession. Graduates are required to undertake a further period of practical legal training before being admitted as a legal practitioner. APAC accreditation has been granted for recognition of Bachelor of Science (Psychology) as a three-year undergraduate degree in psychology. Note: Completion of Bachelor of Science (Psychology) does not meet the minimum requirement for provisional registration as a practicing psychologist, for which a 4th year of accredited study is required.
