About

Bringing a character to life involves more than just technical ability. With that in mind, Animation at JMC has been developed in association with studio professionals from Pixar and Animal Logic and is born of a love affair between technology, creativity and science.

Animation is an essential ingredient in the collaborative, innovative and future-forward global entertainment industry, which is why some of the most in-demand players are animators and visual-effects specialists. Learn to design and develop characters and worlds – from concept to finished art – and create believable character performances and arresting graphical motion.

Take advantage of JMC’s industry-standard technology to bring your project to life, and add to your skills with extension electives like augmented and virtual reality, motion capture, and compositing. Build a polished portfolio and showreel and learn the essential skills of working in a studio with professional colleagues.

You will be able to access the Full Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Autodesk Maya, Wacom Intuos Pro + Cintiq tablets, Animation lightboxes, ball + socket stop-motion rigs, Dragonframe stop-motion software, 18-camera motion-capture suites, VR facilities, green-screen studios, renderers (Redshift, Pixar RenderMan, Arnold), Substance Painter for texturing, Zbrush for sculpting, Compositing tools (After Effects, Nuke), Katana for Look Development and Shotgun Studio for Project Planning + Management.

With advanced-design campuses in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, ongoing technology upgrades, a dedicated team of academics and industry professionals, and a network of international master class lecturers, JMC Academy is committed to ensuring our graduates make their own indelible mark on industry.

The positive impact of gamification is increasingly being used in a range of roles as a method of communication. Aside from the billion-dollar animation industry, JMC graduates find work in education, training, corporate business, advertising and many other sectors in any of the following roles.

All JMC bachelor degree graduates are eligible to apply for entry into JMC Academy's Master of Creative Industries, or relevant post-grad qualification at any Australian university.

Essential requirements for admission

Folio and folio presentation: You are encouraged to bring along any samples at all of work you've completed either in your free time or during alternative study. The portfolio should contain at least five pieces of work that demonstrate your creativity and may include drawings, paintings, photography, design work, stories and more.
