Game artists build the environments, create the characters and craft the vehicles for the games that you love to play. They can specialise in modelling, texturing, animation and level design. Game art development is a dynamic medium to showcase your creative ability.
In AIE’s Game Art course you'll master industry tools such as Maya for 3D content creation, Zbrush for high-detail sculpting and Substance Painter and Designer to develop materials and paint your 3D creations. You will learn how to use game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity to bring game characters and worlds to life.
This course has been written in consultation with leading local and international game developers and runs for two years, full-time.
AIE graduates are working in games studios on titles including Fall Guys, Conan Chop-Chop, the Call of Duty franchise and Godfall.
Game 3D environment art, character art and animation, graphical user interfaces, VR/AR content creation and photogrammetry. The course focuses on skills such as 3D sculpting and modelling, animation, rigging, lighting and rendering, project management and portfolio development.
A key area of study in this program is two production-focused projects where innovative games are developed in teams consisting of game design, game art and game programming students working collaboratively. Teams learn real-world production cycles in an industry-simulated development environment, from pitching their game idea, through to writing game design documents, evaluating technical requirements, managing workload, meeting deadlines, delivering content, bug-fixing, QA testing, publishing and showcasing their game.

AIE courses are taught in a studio-simulated learning environment. Students develop hands-on skills and knowledge by working on real-world tasks. AIE Trainers are experienced industry professionals who know what it takes to make it in game art and animation.

The VET Student Loans program allows eligible students enrolled in AIE's approved Advanced Diploma courses to defer part of the cost of their tuition fees. A VET Student Loan gives rise to a HELP debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.
Interview and portfolio: Entry for the Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development – specialising in Game Art and Animation is based on an interview. At the interview we will review your portfolio of work, including any creative works you have made. We are looking for your passion, ideas and aptitude for the course.
Other pathways: Students can also enter this program through the successful completion of a Certificate II or III program in a related area. This will assist them in the development of a portfolio and demonstrate aptitude for entry to this Advanced Diploma.
