About

The Master of Teaching (Primary) gives you practical tools to provide inspiration and direction to primary-school students. This degree offers a mix of on-campus theory and school-based placements, including a number of international placement opportunities. Subjects covered include understanding and teaching children, teaching and learning in classrooms, and inclusive teaching for effective learning.

Flexible study options are offered where applicants may be eligible for an accelerated study mode for early completion.

The Master of Teaching (Primary) is accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).

Admission criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in any discipline with a minimum GPA of 4 on a 7-point scale.
  • Eight subjects (equivalent of one year) of study in at least one area relevant to primary teaching in order to meet the curriculum requirements of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
  • Applicants must also meet the mathematics requirements for Primary teaching, from either:
    • Band 4 or equivalent in HSC mathematics; or
    • Completion of a mathematics discipline content subject in an undergraduate degree; or
    • Completion of WSU Mathematics Bridging Course for Master of Teaching (Primary) or Master of Teaching (B-5yrs/B-12yrs) programs.

Additional information

Accelerated progression

The program can be completed in 1.5 years of full-time study with accelerated progression by students who gain a GPA of 5 for their first four core subjects of study in the Master of Teaching (Primary).

Suitability for teaching

Students are required to demonstrate suitability for the teaching profession by completing the Literacy and Numeracy Test.
