Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design)

The Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) equips students with the skills and knowledge to shape the world around us by combining form and function to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.

Through project-based learning approaches with a strong emphasis on problem-solving, prototyping, and sustainable design practices, students will develop specialised skills in design research, communication, visualisation, fabrication and manufacturing. With access to a diverse range of materials and processes through state-of-the-art facilities such as Workshop7 and guidance from highly experienced technical and academic staff, students are provided with an environment to bring their ideas, ambitions, and passions to life.

This course allows students to develop an in-depth understanding of their specialised area while also expanding their potential as a designer. Students will graduate as resilient and adaptive design professionals capable of solving a wide array of problems and will be able to make significant contributions to any interdisciplinary industrial design team.

Practical experience

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is embedded in this course, providing you with opportunities for direct industry engagement at every level of your study. You’ll be involved in projects which realise creative design solutions for real-world clients, and industry projects in the past have included work with Breville, Sunbeam, Tiller Design, Blue Sky Design, Belconnen Community Council and Design Resource. Previous student WIL internships have been with furniture, lighting and product design company, SKEEHAN, and transport design firm TransitGraphics.

Fees and charges

The Australian Government subsidises the tuition fee for this course. The remaining balance is paid by the student. Current UC fee information.
