The Bachelor of Hospitality Management offers:

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects are built into your degree, meaning you’ll have an organised internship as part of your degree.

Our impressive network of hospitality industry partners provide invaluable industry insight and experience, help shape our qualifications and ensure they are in line with industry best practice. When it is time to embark on your industry training, we work closely with them to find a suitable placement that is the best fit for your skills, interests and professional goals.

Your industry training could take you to a major city, regional area or island resort in Australia, or an international city. Not only is this an invaluable experience, but it is also a chance to grow your professional network. For many of our graduates this experience introduces them to their future employers.

While theory teaches you the hospitality management fundamentals, nothing is as valuable as putting theory into practice. In addition to your industry training, you’ll gain hands-on experience through practical classes. You’ll also manage large-scale events with real clients and work in the Grand Dining Room (our on-campus training restaurant) and in the production kitchen. Field trips and site visits with our industry partners will get you learning from the best in the business.

The Bachelor of Hospitality Management is career-focused and aims to develop contemporary knowledge and skills needed for success. This means:

In your final year of the Bachelor of Hospitality Management, you will have the opportunity to participate in a ‘capstone’ subject to test your abilities in addressing contemporary issues or problems in the area in which you may forge a successful career.

Areas of study

Core business skills and specialised hospitality management subjects such as rooms division operations, food and beverage service, bar and mixology, gastronomy, revenue optimisation, service and experiences, and hotel management Elective subjects include entrepreneurship, event management, international tourism, marketing, sports management.

Career opportunities

Hotel manager, food and beverage manager, accommodation manager, hotel sales and marketing, guest relations manager, banquet manager, resort and spa manager, airline operations manager, restaurant manager, bar/cocktail manager, concierge, catering manager.

Practical experience

A minimum of 600 hours.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Recommended studies: Completion of NSW HSC (or equivalent) with a minimum Band 2 in English Standard or English EAL/D and a Band 2 in any one of the following suggested equivalent subjects including Mathematics Standard 2, Business Studies, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Legal Studies, Financial Services or Business Services.

ICMS does not use selection ranks for admissions. Applicants are assessed on performance in individual HSC (or equivalent) subjects and prospective applicants may be contacted by ICMS to attend an interview.
